Dear MDIRSS Community
With the cancellation of afterschool activities due to the weather, The AOS 91 meeting is also canceled. Do know that the board and I have reviewed the calendar feedback and will take the proposed every Wednesday hour and a half early release off the table.
I appreciate the thoughtful discussions and honest feedback from the community in response to this proposal. What has been made clear to all is that at this time the need to care for students after school must be included in such a calendar proposal. Currently, those options and opportunities for our families are not shored up, and I believe it best to have a clear plan before a new proposal is offered.
I will be placing two new calendar proposals on the AOS website for people to view, one mirrors this year’s calendar and one includes 2 additional district-based early-release days. One of the days will be in September and the other will be in March, taking us from 9 days of ER to 11. (Please note these numbers include the contracted parent-teacher conference days.) This recommendation is in response to our teacher leaders specifically asking for more time to work together to strengthen Tier 1 practices (classroom instruction).
These versions will be on the individual school board meeting agendas this coming month for discussion, and a vote on the 2023-2024 calendar will be at the April 10th AOS board meeting at 6 pm.
